FIXTURES FINALLY OUT!
After much arranging by our wonderful Fixture Secretary Ray Short, the 2010/2011 fixtures are now complete.
Starting with a friendly against Market Bosworth on Saturday 4th September and kicking off the League 3 campaign against Ashby 2nds on Saturday 11th, it looks like an interesting season for a new look Shepshed team this year.
We also have a testimonial match of old and new players for our longest serving player (Nick "Mr Lumpy" Burton) which promises to be a day's fun for all the family.
See the full fixture list in the Results and Fixtures section.
Due to the delay in going live the 2009 / 2010 season has now finished with SRFC finishing a disappointing 2nd from bottom.
A series of long term injuries and fixture congestion didn't help the cause but allowed some of the newer players to be blooded and demonstrate what they could do.
One real bonus to SRFC was the chance to get two teams out on a few occasions, allowing the fringe players to shine and introduce some new players to the mix.
Next season's fixtures are now out and you can see these in the Results & Fixtures section of the website.
Awards Evening
Following the conclusion of the 2009/2010 Season, all the great and good (and some not so good) gathered for the end of season Awards Evening.
Respledent in a mix of attire, ranging from hideous pink ties to a full blown top hat and tails that wouldn't look out of place at Ascot, the season's awards were presented by members of SRFC Committee.
The winners of the awards were:
Player’s Player – Gareth "Gaz" Bennett
Young Player – Aaron "Pop"Larking
Clubman – Richard Bailey
Most Improved Player – James Leeson
Distinguished Service – Shaun “Buster” Hibberd
Young Achiever – Andy “Plimo” Plimsaule
Award of Merit – Alex “Nudger” Burton
Top Try Scorer – Matthew “Horse” Campsall
Bryan Smith Memorial Award – Gareth “Taff” Eveleigh
Outstanding Contribution – John “Oddjob” Ryan
Everyone seemed to have a good night and, if the turnout at the AGM the next day is anything to go on, most struggled to their pits in the early hours of Sunday.
A great event arranged by outgoing Social Secretary Jon Jarram and one that many will remember (and a few that couldn't remember the next day!).
